Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has unveiled the latest entry to its WB Movieverse with the release of Superman Web3 Movie Experience. The bundle will be available on the web3.wb.com platform starting on Friday, June 9, with early access granted to previous buyers of Warner Bros. NFTs.
This latest offering centers around the iconic 1978 film Superman: The Movie, directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve.
The bundle contains a multimedia package that includes the 4K Ultra HD version of the film, along with exclusive extras such as image galleries and artist renderings by notable DC artists.
The Superman Web3 Movie Experience will be available for a limited time. The Standard Edition will retail for $30 and the Premium Edition will be priced at $100.
The Standard Edition will be available for one week starting from June 9. This edition includes an interactive location-based navigation menu, the theatrical version of “Superman: The Movie,” previously released special features and an image gallery featuring stills and behind-the-scenes photos.
The Premium Edition will be offered for 24 hours on June 9. This edition provides three distinct variations — Truth, Justice and Hope — each showcasing an illustration of Christopher Reeve’s Superman by one of three DC artists — Ivan Reiss, Ben Oliver or Bill Sienkiewicz.
Buyers of this edition will also enjoy an interactive and explorable location-based navigation menu and three versions of the film, including Superman: The Movie – Theatrical Version, Superman: The Movie – Expanded Director’s Cut and Superman: The Movie – Extended TV Edition.
The bundle includes previously released special features, image galleries featuring costume and detail images from the Warner Bros. Archive and behind-the-scenes footage.
Customers can complete their transactions using either a credit card or cryptocurrency after creating an Eluvio NFT media wallet.
Early access to all editions of the Superman Web3 Movie Experience will be granted on June 8 to holders of the DC Bat Cowl NFT at 8 a.m. ET, DC3 holders at 11 a.m. ET, and The Lord of the Rings Web3 Movie Experience holders at 2 p.m. ET.
Buyers of the Superman Web3 Movie Experience will also receive a complimentary voucher code for a DC3 Super Power Pack: Series Superman from the DC NFT Marketplace.
These packs contain three randomly selected Superman comics with rarities from Common to Legendary. The packs will be time-gated, open edition drops and limited to one per account, with new themed packs launched every few weeks.
The movie bundles can be watched, collected and sold on the Movieverse marketplace, which operates on the Eluvio Content Blockchain. According to the company, the core digital assets and derivative NFTs are all stored on the blockchain rather than just the token itself.
This release marks the second installment in the “WB Movieverse” initiative, following the pioneering NFT movie bundle for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) last year.
The release features a similar interactive menu experience and bonus content from the series, with over eight hours of behind-the-scenes special features and AR collectibles.
Eluvio, the content blockchain technology provider behind the marketplace, claims its blockchain architecture is more efficient than traditional streaming and content distribution systems.
Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of Eluvio, expressed enthusiasm for the project, saying, “For fans of this beloved and iconic film, ‘Superman: The Movie’ is being released as an exclusive Web3 film and immersive digital collectible for the first time.”
Eluvio’s Content Blockchain claims to utilize an eco-friendly “proof-of-authority” consensus, minimizing the high energy consumption typically associated with computational “proof-of-work” blockchains.
