After a successful soft launch that garnered more than 2 million downloads, NFL Rivals is officially launched worldwide for mobile devices. Over 15 million matches have been played in under four months during the pre-season.
The game is a collaboration between the NFL, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and Mythical Games to celebrate the kickoff of the 2023 NFL season. It is the first NFL-licensed mobile game that incorporates Web3 digital ownership technology. The move follows Google’s decision to update its Android Play Store policies, allowing NFT purchases and in-app integrations.
This season, the game comes with brand-new packs, in-game and live events, new game modes and unique pack offerings, complete with the ability to own, collect and trade playable digital assets. Special items will be available to unlock access to special events, in-game rewards and other features.
“The incredible reception by fans during the pre-season of NFL Rivals blew us away.”
John Linden, CEO at Mythical Games.
“Now, with the global launch of the game, we’re excited to give NFL fans an opportunity to play, build, and own their very own team of licensed NFL players during the regular season,” said Linden.
According to Plato Network, the game’s standout features are its stunning visuals and realistic gameplay. The player models are highly detailed, the stadiums are authentic, and the animations are lifelike. This makes every action feel immersive.
In NFL Rivals, fans play the general manager role of major league teams. From quarterbacks to linebackers, they can create their desired lineup by collecting and upgrading their favorite NFL players. Players can also customize their teams’ uniforms and stadiums.
Various game modes are available, including Season, Quick Match and multiplayer. Players can compete in head-to-head matches against other players’ teams, AI opponents or friends. As players progress through an entire NFL season with leaderboards and rankings, they can see how they stack up against the best players.
The game also features real NFL teams, players and logos to further enhance the gameplay. Some of the teams in the game are the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers and the latest addition, the Miami Dolphins.
With the worldwide launch, NFL Rivals is opening its in-game blockchain marketplace. It is the first-ever on a mobile game.
This marketplace allows players to buy and sell player cards and packs without leaving the game. Digital items in the market are listed in Rivals Credits, a currency that can be purchased through the App Store and Google Play using in-app purchases (IAP) with bundles from 140 Credits for $1.99 to 7,000 Credits for $99.99.
In the future, the marketplace will also have a bidding feature, which will make product pricing move dynamically. For now, the game does not have a complete marketplace browsing experience, only serving limited suggestions.
Existing players who have reached user level 4 or higher can purchase suggested NFT player cards by tapping the “Improve My Roster” button on the team roster menu.
Players who want to browse the entire selection of listed digital assets need to access the web-based Mythical Marketplace. The purchased NFT will be stored in the player’s Mythical account.
To use the NFT in the game, the user must connect their Mythical account to NFL Rivals. Once connected, users can add the NFT player card to their lineup and use it in football games.
Players must be 21 years of age or older or reach the minimum age for gambling in their respective state and located in jurisdictions where online gambling is legal. Please play responsibly.
